This action-packed half-day taster event is suitable for adults and for families with children of all ages and is ideal as a gift experience for a birthday, Christmas or Mothers' and Fathers' Day. (gift vouchers are available.) It is suitable as the first step for wana-bee beekeepers or for anyone inspired by recent tv programmes and would like to learn more about beekeeping and honey.
You will discover why we keep bees and a bit about the lifecycle of honeybees before seeing them closeup under a microscope and learning about the inner workings of beehives. We will then wear a bee suit and visit the apiary where you will get some hands-on experience of handling the bees under supervision. To round off the experience you will get to do a tutored honey-tasting and learn a bit about our wildflower honey and then make a rolled bees-wax candle. We may provide an alternative glass-fronted observation hive for children below the age of 9yrs.
